William Chapman Alderman holdeth by Indenture dated the Second day of October in the Three and forteth yeare of Queene Eliz(abeth) (1601) Two Tenem(en)ts lyeinge in the p(ar)ish of St (Mary of) Stalls betweene a Tenem(en)t of Walter Chapman commonly called the signe of the harte on the North and the lane leadinge to the Crosse Bath South abutteth upon the brewhouse belonginge to the hart and openeth into the said Streete East together w(i)th two gardens unto the said two Tenem(en)t belonginge the one lyeinge w(i)thout Southgate where upon there is a Tenem(en)t newly erected and built the way leadinge to the North And the Tenem(en)t nowe in the tenure of (gap in MS) on the South and openeth into the said Streete East and nowe in the tenure of William Lyne Smith the other garden lyeth w(i)thout Eastgate comonly called lott lane betweene a Tenem(en)t of Roger Lowell North and a garden of William Whitaker South the Rivor of Avon on the East and the way leadinge to Muncke Mill west to hold from the date hereof for the Terme of Threeskore yeares Rent xxxviis iiiid not to let w(i)thout licence
